Glenbard's Pietro Wins Gold Medal at 2010 State Wars Inline Tournament
Glenbard defensman, Michael Pietro, has been improving in great strides on the ice the past 2 years, but little does everyone know, he just started playing the kind of hockey we all play on a sheet of ice a couple years ago. Before that, he was an accomplished inline player for many years before giving the ice version a try.
Michael has always kept up with his inline hockey and continued that this past weekend at the national State Wars inline tournament played in Darien. Michael is a member of the Illinois 1994 A team, who played against teams from Michigan, North Carolina, Kentucky, and Manitoba this weekend just to name a few.
The team went 4-0 in the round robin with Pietro netting 4 goals and adding 6 assists to tie for the team lead in points. Illinois beat Kentucky in the Quarterfinals 5-1, with Pietro scoring a shorthanded goal and an assist. The team faced Manitoba in the SemiFinals and it took overtime to defeat them 2-1. Pietro assisted on the teams first goal.
On to the Gold Medal game against the squad from North Carolina. With a 1-0 lead going into the 2nd half, the Illinois team opened it up to score 5 goals and finish off the tournament with a 6-1 victory and the gold medal. Pietro had 3 assists in the final game to cap off a great tournament. Michael was also voted the tournament's Top Defenseman.
Way to go Michael! Glenbard Hockey is proud of you! Now get back on the ice!
